Despite coach Dan Campbell's initial stance that no moves were expected, the team's Week 9 loss to the Minnesota Vikings has altered their strategy. With starting left guard Christian Mahogany sidelined due to a long-term leg injury, the Lions must adapt their offensive line. During a radio appearance, Campbell acknowledged their interest in offensive line trades, stating, 'We've looked there, for sure.' When probed about the type of player they seek, Campbell offered a generic response, 'Anything we feel like would upgrade us.' However, securing an offensive lineman through trade is challenging due to their scarcity and high value. Campbell noted, 'It’s hard to get rid of them if you’re the other team. If you are, you’re going to ask an astronomical amount.' As the season progresses, finding suitable linemen becomes increasingly difficult, especially for tackle positions. The Lions have internal options to replace Mahogany, including Kayode Awosika, Trystan Colon, and Michael Niese. Campbell hinted at potential positional swaps, mentioning, 'I see Yode, I see Colon getting some reps at guard maybe center as well. We may mix some things up here and move some guys around a little bit.' The team also has veterans like Niese, Cochran, and Kingsley (Eguakun) on their roster, providing further depth. One option the Lions are not considering is moving rookie right guard Tate Ratledge to center, as Campbell aims to focus Ratledge's development at his current position. While the Lions' tackles' status is a concern, Campbell offered a glimmer of hope, sharing an optimistic update on Taylor Decker and Penei Sewell, who briefly exited the Vikings game but returned. However, their availability for the upcoming game against the Commanders remains uncertain.
